MADRID Police in Spain’s northeastern area of Catalonia have arrested an alleged Islamist militant wanted by the United States, Ali Charef Damache, a Catalan official mentioned on Friday.
Damache, who has dual Algerian and Irish nationality, was wanted by the United States and Interpol for alleged crimes of conspiracy to offer assistance for terrorists, Jordi Jane, an official in charge of security in Catalonia’s regional government, said in a statement.
Patty Hartman, a spokesman for the U.S. Justice Division in Philadelphia, exactly where the charges against Damache are lodged, confirms the arrest by Spanish authorities.
“We will be looking for extradition,” Hartman stated.
