The New York Instances mentioned on Monday that Alex MacCallum, an assistant managing editor at the moment overseeing audience development, would take handle of its video department.
Ms. MacCallum, 35, will assume the position when she returns from maternity leave in January, the business stated. Her new title will be assistant editor, and senior vice president, video. She will continue to supervise the audience development group, the organization stated.
The appointment signals the finish of an uncertain period for the video division, which has been without having a full-time leader considering that the paper announced a broad revamping of the unit in July. That was followed by an announcement of buyouts with the prospects of layoffs there earlier this month.
In a note to personnel on Monday, The Timesâs executive editor, Dean Baquet, and the companyâs chief executive, Mark Thompson, described video as a âkey editorial and industrial priorityâ and described Ms. MacCallum as âa strong leader who has a deep appreciation for the mission of The Instances and embodies the spirit of collaboration that we are functioning to extend throughout the company.â
Mr. Baquet and Mr. Thompson said they anticipated Ms. MacCallum âto step in and continue to shape a new vision for both our video journalism and our video enterprise on all platforms.â
They stated that Justin Bank would take more than the day-to-day duty for audience improvement and report to Ms. MacCallum, who would supply strategic oversight of the unit.
She will report to each the enterprise side and the newsroom, they stated.
