BAGHDAD Iraq’s defense minister mentioned on Sunday he had told his Turkish counterpart that hundreds of Turkish forces deployed inside northern Iraq had been sent without informing or coordinating with Baghdad, and have to be withdrawn.
Khaled al-Obeidi stated in a statement that the Turkish defense minister had explained the deployment as needed to defend Turkish military advisers instruction Iraqi forces at a camp near Mosul. But Obeidi stated the Turkish force was as well large for such a objective.
