Microsemi, which makes chip gear and provides software program for cloud data, is looking to expand its offerings for telecom, data center and cloud consumers via the acquisition of PMC-Sierra.

Chipmakers have been acquiring up each and every other at a record pace this year due to rising charges, demand for less costly chips and the want to diversify in the wake of new technologies.
